Orchestrating Situation Awareness and Authority in Complex Socio-technical Systems

Systems engineering is developing everywhere in industry, but human issues incrementally emerge. In particular, this systemic technologycentered approach to engineering rigidifies organizations and lead to surprises. People involved are not fully aware of what is going on. This paper identifies situation awareness and authority issues in complex systems design and management, and discusses possible solutions. It more specifically focuses on an Orchestra model of socio-technical systems.
